Artist Andrea Morucchio created the Rape of Venice project to protest the overwhelming tourist invasion that is burying his beloved city and undermining its unique traditional urban culture and infrastructure. His multimedia installation project has been hosted during the Biennale season by the Palazzo Mocenigo museum of fabrics and fragrances in Santa Croce. Chief sponsor is Mavive Perfumes of Venice, whose CEO, Marco Vidal, shares the artist's concerns and created a fragrance that forms part of the ensemble, along with an overlaid printed floor (based on the mosaic pavement of the Basilica of San Marco), an audio track and video projections. George Fishman is a free-lance writer and director of QRartguide a custom audio service that records and delivers artist and curatorial statements to audiences via their smart phones, using QR codes.
